Friday Faves: Preschool, Primary Program and Pinterest Finds

Friday Faves: Preschool, Primary Program and Pinterest Finds

Preschool

We started another year of preschool. It is amazing what a couple of months can do for language and social development. Last year our son was the absolute youngest in his preschool class, being a late August birthday, and it showed in every way. I wasn’t worried because I wanted him to get into a schedule and socialize with other children his age. I noticed growth throughout the year and he developed a great curiosity and love for learning.

However over the summer, he took off and has really learned how to express himself and his verbal communication literally exploded. I relate to his slower language development because when I was learning Spanish, on my LDS mission, I would hesitate to talk because I wanted to speak perfectly. Sometimes I’ll catch my son saying “Mom, you said the wrong word! or “How do you say that again?” He loves to learn new things and is a so curious about why we do certain things.

This year I am hoping to focus more on the academics. I have him enrolled in a preschool two days a week. He is loving the attention and the fact that he has homework. He works hard and has taken so much pride in his learning. It does a mother teacher’s heart good too see her children loving the discovery of learning.

Primary Program

With the transitions of moving this summer, our children have been in three different wards in the last 6 months. I was so worried they would be shy or have a hard time but they have done the complete opposite. Our very first Sunday in our new ward our son walked right in and picked our bench next to all of the widows. They made such an impression with him that we sit by them every week. Our kids call any elderly in the ward grandma or grandpa and freely give hugs to any who make eyes at them.

Our daughter started nursery right before we left our ward of almost five years. She didn’t like nursery. The second ward was a huge step because she slowly eased into it. I think it was the amazing leaders who cared so much about her. She got to the point where she would stay the entire time and not cry. This Sunday, an absolute miracle happened. Before sacrament meeting even ended she spotted one of her nursery leaders. She ran over gave her a hug and went with her, not me, to nursery. She has become such a brave girl.

Our son, no problem has gone to three different primary classes and is thrilled to make new friends. In fact the very first Sunday he wanted to save a spot on a bench for all of his friends. It sort of broke my heart to hear him because in a new ward, we didn’t have any friends yet. Always an optimist that boy! Sometimes he can be a little shy in front of crowds but for our primary program, he stood right up and said his part almost all by himself.

I wish I could bottle up his little voice forever! It is the cutest. Here is his part in case you can’t understand him. “Jesus taught us to love everyone, even our enemies. I can follow his example by being kind to everyone.”

He is the sweetest and really does care so much about everyone. If only we could work on the sharing thing. Then maybe he would be kind in every way.
