Friday Faves: Throwback Thanksgiving Memories

Throwback Thanksgiving Memories: a fire, a blowup boyfriend and a whole lot of pie.

It being Thanksgiving and such this week I thought I’d throw out my favorite Thanksgiving memory. It all began at my 30th birthday when my brothers picked me up to take me to lunch. Buckled up in the back of their car was a blowup doll. He was Hispanic, covered in hair and they were nice enough to put clothes on him. Thirty could have been a big bust being single and boyfriendless, but they were able to help me celebrate it with a smile. We named him Miguel and he became an instant favorite friend to all of my nieces and nephews.

Well for Thanksgiving I was told that I had to bring Miguel. So we dressed him up nice and sat him down at the dinner table. That was just the beginning of the adventurous dinner. This year for dinner we had 50 people at my parents house so my mom chose to use paper napkins, but made sure to keep it fancy with candle centerpieces and china plates. So I had just sat down to eat my dinner after choosing my favorite courses when my 11 year old cousin plops himself down next to me. Wouldn’t be a big deal, but he had the largest greasy turkey leg I’d ever seen. I threatened him with his life if he got any of that grease on me, dramatic yes.

We started eating and all went well, until the greasy turkey leg filled napkin caught on fire. I tried to blow it out, but couldn’t catch my breath because I was laughing so hard. It was just like that game my uncles used to play with me, they pinch until you whistle. You can’t whistle because you are laughing so hard. It wasn’t until my sister-in-law dumped a glass of water on the table that the fire was gone. It was truely a Thanksgiving to remember.
