Baguette French Toast

Baguette French Toast is a sophisticated twist on a traditional breakfast food.

A Teaspoon of Home

I was shocked when I saw this simple fun twist to a basic breakfast food. I’m always looking for fun ways to feed my family and sometimes it helps to make it a little fancy. This baguette French toast is a perfect switch up in your regular meal planning.

I love how simple it is to make and how much my little family loves it! Sometimes I’ll buy two baguettes and freeze what we don’t eat because my kids love eating it for breakfast too.

A Teaspoon of Home

My only advice is don’t wait too long to make it after buying the baguettes because they only stay soft for a day, maybe two. Last time I purchased baguettes for French toast I waited too long and had to saw through the bread which immediately crumbled.  We made the most of it and took it to the duck park to share with our feathered friends but had to stomp on it to break it into smaller pieces.

A Teaspoon of HomeI love decorating them with powdered sugar and fresh berries but you could be so creative and your family will think you are the best! So change up your dinner routine and add a little breakfast to the menu. I love this meal because I always have breakfast for the following day/ days to come.

Friday Faves: Meet A Teaspoon of Home

Friday Faves: Meet A Teaspoon of Home, preschool, campaigning and the circus.

So I’ve decided to add an extra post on Friday’s. This will introduce you a bit to my little life and family, as well as share some great new recipe finds. I hope it will be a way for me to connect with my readers and serve as a little journal.

A Teaspoon of Home

So my name is Emily Dunnigan and I am A Teaspoon of Home. I am a mother of two busy kids, a one year old and a three year old and love being at home creating memories with them. I was lucky enough to meet my amazing husband almost four years ago. We were set up and fell fast in love. He is the best decision I ever made and I am reminded of that on a daily basis; as he takes such great care of me and my babies.

I waited a long time to meet Mr. Right and so for the decade that I was searching for him I hosted weekly/monthly crepe parties and oodles of dinners and other events. I found that I was happiest when I could create things for others to enjoy. Since becoming a mom I try to do the same for my family. So I decided to create just that, a resource for meal making.

Weekly highlights:

*Sending my 3 year old to preschool for 6 hours this week without tears (from mom or son). I am loving his excitement to learn and be engaged. Plus I am moving mountains, well cleaning floors, ironing, laundry and many other things that haven’t been done in too long.

A Teaspoon of Home

*Campaigning for my father in-law and supporting him at a community event. (Are not my kid’s shirts sooo cute?)

A Teaspoon of Home

*Family trip to the Circus, the greatest show on earth, so fun to hear the oohs and awes from my children as they experience new things.

Momma’s Cooking

Momma’s Cooking: this week’s menu of Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup, Simply the Best French Bread and soft Gingersnaps.

A Teaspoon of HomeThere is nothing I love more than my mom’s cooking! It doesn’t matter what it is, it always tastes better when she makes it. This week’s menu is one of my favorite menus that my mom makes. Anytime a chill comes in the air you can bet that there is a pot of chicken noodle soup on her stove.

My mom taught me to love to bake and spend time in the kitchen. She has always been the first to offer meals to neighbors and family in need. I never wondered what my role was to be as a wife and mother because she set a standard of excellence for me to follow. I feel so fortunate to have been taught under her tutorship.

So if you ever wonder what to cook for dinner, think back on those mom moments when you remember mom in her element. Looking back, I don’t know how she ever pulled it together so well with 5 busy kids, but eating together was what we did. My greatest memories still are, to this day, based on those mealtime experiences.

So here’s to moms everywhere who somehow manage to keep it together, even when they mentally feel like they are falling apart.

This week’s menu is dedicated to my own mom for the help and support she’s been throughout my life and the example of selflessness that she so masterfully sets.

Soft Gingersnaps

Soft Gingersnaps are bursting with fall flavors and will melt in your mouth as you take your first bite.

Soft Gingersnaps by A Teaspoon of Home

Gingersnaps remind me so much of my childhood. My mom was never one to store treats in our home, now that I am a mom I know why- because I eat them. But there is one treat that you could always find at our house in the bottom shelf of the pantry, gingersnaps. These were store bought, small hard cookies. Maybe you remember them? The kind that scratch the roof of your mouth if you take too big of a bite. There was something about the flavor that made everyone sneak a couple of cookies from the cupboard.

Simply the Best French Bread

Simply the Best French Bread: this recipe will make you wonder why you ever bought it at the store. It is simple, delicious and will disappear in moments flat.

Simply the Best French Bread by A Teaspoon of HomeI love baking bread and this recipe makes that love for baking multiply. I feel like the most intimidating part of bread-making is yeast and this recipe is literally a dump and mix. You can not fail! I place all of the ingredients into my Bosch and turn it on and off a few times and then roll out the dough. It is so simple, you will wonder why you ever bought it at the store. [Read more…]
